God, Help Me Not To Mess Up My Kids!

DAY 1 OF 5

God, Help My Kids to Survive the Day—A Prayer for My Child’s Future

Do you recount the moment when the reality of parenthood struck you? Perhaps it was when you brought that little baby home from the hospital, put her on the bed and said, “Now what do I do?” At that moment, you may have felt clueless and completely inadequate. You muddled through it for a few days and finally started to get the hang of it.

As the days go by, we begin to dream about the future—what it will look like for our child. Granted, our child’s “future” might be surviving preschool or the freshman year of high school! We all have dreams for our children—dreams that transcend success in the world’s eyes. We not only want them to be happy and healthy, but full of spiritual joy and the maturity that comes from walking with Christ faithfully.

Let’s use today’s verses as a blueprint for prayer. Take the concepts of the verses and turn them into a prayer for your children. Here’s an example:

Father, as I nurture my children today, may I trust in You with all of my heart. It’s easy to lean on my own understanding and think I know what is best. Instead, I want to submit to Your plan. Thank You for Your promise to make my paths straight (based on Proverbs 3:5-6).

Thank You for creating my children as Your handiwork, as Your unique design. Your Word says that they were created in Christ Jesus to do good works. May they grow to become children who intentionally look for ways to serve others. Thank You that You have prepared those works in advance and are preparing my children for their futures. May they be full of spiritual joy and maturity that comes from walking with you faithfully (based on Ephesians 2:10).

In Psalm 32, we learn that You instruct my children in the way they should go. Help them to hear Your voice and make right choices today. Your loving eye watches them and counsels them. May they walk in Your ways and follow Your counsel throughout their lives (based on Psalm 32:8).

Let’s dig deeper together. Watch a video of mom’s sharing their dreams for their children, find encouragement, and discover some practical ways to apply this lesson.
