Day Six: Worthy of More
One of the most sobering scriptures in the whole Bible is Matthew 7:21-23, where Jesus says:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”
The truth of this scripture is that we can think we are doing the works of God without actually knowing God. This scripture inspired us to write a song called “Worthy of More.” The chorus reminds us that God is worthy of every minute, moment, and second of our lives. He is worthy of our desires and all our affection. He is even worthy of our ambitions and obsessions. He desires a relationship with His people and wants us to personally know Him for ourselves. He does not want just our work, but He wants our time and attention. John 4:23 teaches us that the Father is seeking people who worship in spirit and in truth. John 17:3 says: “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
One of the main points of our Christian faith is to know God and be known by Him. Take time today to put away the distractions of life and know God for yourself. Turn away from the issues that are pulling on your heart and instead get into the word of God and let Him renew your strength.
