Unfair Grace

DAY 6 OF 11

We’ve seen how God chooses to incapacitate us to get through us. Today we are going to ponder on why He goes through the trouble of coming after us time and time again. Why does God not substitute us for someone else like any good coach who would have easily substituted his player or benched him when he wasn’t performing? But God doesn’t do that, He still chooses us, like we’re the star players. But God, don’t you know how wretched we are? God will take us down to the deep, darkest moment, but He will also bring us back up again!

Jonah’s prayer was one of gratitude and not deliverance which meant that his life and ministry were now based on gratitude. This is what he experienced from God and was able to share with others. Thankfulness rather than privilege. Often times we think we are doing God a big favor by serving. We forget the price that was paid for us on the Cross. We forget the joy it is to serve God each day. We are here to serve. He will reconcile us to Him, but not on our terms, on His. God could have easily swapped Jonah for someone else. He could have found someone who was willing to go to Nineveh. But rather, he chose to pursue Jonah.

Sometimes the pursuit might seem like punishment, but it’s what has to be done for God to get through to you. It’s not a pleasant experience when we are incapacitated, but once we realize that God is behind it and seek what His purpose is behind this, he will restore us. He lays us down in green pastures, he restores our soul. We obtain his mercy firsthand, then we can share it with others.

To Remember:

1. God pursues and provides even when we’re not in fellowship with Him.

2. God's anger lasts but a moment, He delights in showing mercy.

3. God meets us there to renew our faith and worship.

Prayer

Our heavenly Father, I thank you for never giving up on me. You know just how wretched my thoughts are, but still, your love and mercy come after me. Thank you for giving us your Son to die for us to bring us back into fellowship with you. May we continue to seek your will in our lives and be faithful to serve you wherever you have called us. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.
