The Letters Continued - 1& 2 Thessalonians | Philippians | James | Jude

DAY 19 OF 30

This letter was written by Paul whilst imprisoned in Rome. He wrote to the Philippians in Eastern Europe to whom he had ministered in his second missionary journey. Likely written between AD 61-62, this letter is a revelation of joy! Paul teaches us the importance of joyfulness throughout our journey of becoming like Christ.

Paul expresses his appreciation and affection for the believers in Philippi who offered material support for his ministry. Paul thanks them for the kindness he was shown and shares his surprising truth - that despite the chains of imprisonment he was experiencing, he had found reason to rejoice. This letter conveys a powerful message of hope and the secret of contentment with Jesus. Paul had learnt to be content despite trials, hardships, beatings, imprisonment, and illness. He encourages them to live out their faith in joy and unity with affection.

Paul knew that true joy and contentment come only through humble faith in Jesus our Saviour, finding community with other believers, and serving others in the name of Christ. As we read through Philippians, allow yourself to be inspired by Paul’s faith and joy.
