Build The House: A Call To Build The Church

DAY 5 OF 7

“God’s House First"

Nearly 400 years after Solomon built the Temple, it was destroyed, along with the city of Jerusalem by the Babylonians. God allowed Israel to be overrun by their enemy because they had turned their back on Him and began to worship false gods. Many of the Israelites were taken into captivity for several years.

Through God’s grace, many of the Jews were permitted to return to their land a few decades later. Yet, when the people returned, they began to rebuild their own lives and neglected the house of God - the Temple. The prophet Haggai challenged the people to make God’s House a priority. In fact, he said that they were living under a curse because they were neglecting God’s House.

He called the people to prioritize God’s House and see the blessing of God in building their own. The people repented and went to work laying the foundation of the Temple again. Because they committed to building God’s House, God declared over them, “From this day on I will bless you.”

When we build God’s house, He promises to build ours. When we honor God with our wealth, He promises to bless us in return. We don’t do it to get a blessing; we do it because we want to be a blessing.

Have you seen God’s blessing in your life as you committed to building His House?
