"Great Are You Lord"
Peter, Paul, Barnabus, Stephen… all big names. All big players. The book of Acts is crammed full of impressive people doing impressive things. These are the early church builders and it could be easy for us to get carried away. If we aren’t careful we could get to thinking that the real focus of the book of Acts is the guys doing the leading, the preaching, and the dying. In truth, the book of Acts isn’t nearly as much about those men as it is about the Holy Spirit. There's only one hero, just as there was only One worth praising back then: God.
Who offers salvation? Who heals? Who gives life, knowledge, and blessings? Peter’s story here gives us clear answers. Death was on his mind, but God had other plans. There are more than a few jail-busts in the Bible, but this is one of the best. It's so amazing that Peter even thought it was a vision, a vivid dream that was playing out his desire to break free. But the light, the angel, the kick on the side to wake him up were as real as the prison they were leaving behind.
There's only one hero that we need to follow. There’s only One who gives life, who is love, who brings light to the darkness. The big-name Christian speakers might be impressive enough from a distance, but we all must never forget that it's God who is behind every miracle. It's from Him that all the blessings come and to Him that all the glory goes.
It’s because of this that we know that Christian success is not shown by possessions or an easy life. The mark of a true Christian is to be found in how lightly they hold onto things rather than the number of things they must hold on to. Obedience, sacrifice, and a relationship with God – those are the things that count.
We might talk about the importance of equality and community; we might even say that possessions don’t matter to us, but do our lives back that up? Have we been so generous that there is no one around us who is in need? Are we living like it’s His breath in our lungs?

About this Plan
How do we trust God? How do we narrow the gap between the way we want to live and the way we act it out? Every one of us faces trials and troubles. None of us are strangers to uncertainty or fear or the kind of opposition that can threaten to overwhelm us. Yet the story does not end there. It never does. God’s arms are wide open to every one of us…
