What the Bible Has to Say About Clothingنموونە
What does your clothing say about you?
“Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.” (1 Peter 3:3-4)
Besides covering and protecting you, clothing also allows you to develop your own style and express who you are. Some dress decently because they do not want to attract too much attention. Others dress provocatively or express their connection with a particular group through their clothing. Some wear expensive suits and others prefer dresses.
The Bible does not prescribe a specific style of clothing. However, we are called to dress “modestly." We are not supposed to show off our bodies and deliberately provoke dishonorable thoughts in others. After all, our body is a temple of God! (1 Corinthians 3:16). Therefore, we should use our bodies to His glory, in accordance with His will.
There is nothing wrong with beautiful clothing or jewelry, nor with a stylish hairstyle. But the Bible reminds us that inner beauty is much more important, so that is what we must focus on.
You can send out all kinds of messages with your clothes. Are you conscious of the message that you are conveying? What does your clothing say about you?
Today's Bible verse says that we should especially develop our inner beauty. How could you do that? And what message will that send?
About this Plan
You will not find clothing style advice in the Bible. Nor will you find the latest fashions. Yet God's Word has a lot to say about clothing: why we wear clothes at all, how we should dress, and how God offers us beautiful, spotless clothing to cover our sins. Will you read with us?
