Four Steps to Model Christ at Work

DAY 1 OF 4

Four Steps to Model Christ at Work: Step One

A Gospel Coalition article by Miranda Carls addresses one reader’s question, who asked, “My co-workers think my faith is a joke… What should I do about it?” The article provides four steps to improve your experience at work and to represent Christ more fully.

The first step highlighted is to look for seed-planting opportunities.

If you’re intentional about modeling Christ-like behavior, you will often receive an opportunity to plant spiritual seeds in others.

In 1 Corinthians 3, Paul wrote, “I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.”

By loving others and following the Holy Spirit’s promptings, you may be able to at least plant seeds for the next person to water.

Questions for Reflection

  • How would you define a seed in this context? Are there many types of seeds or only one?
  • Could a seed be more than simply what you say or do, perhaps even how you decorate your office? What types of seeds would work on what types of people?
  • What does a good opportunity to plant a seed look like? What does being prompted by the Holy Spirit feel like? Think of a time you were sure you felt the Holy Spirit. How would you describe that feeling?
