DAY 3 OF 3

Fixing Your Eyes On Jesus

In Hebrews, the word of God instructs us to run the race set out for us by fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer, and perfecter of faith. What does it mean to fix your eyes on Jesus? It means to look away from the things that hinder you and prevent you from pressing forward and focus on your faith in Jesus. Focus is the ability to give direct attention to someone or something with disruption. In Matthew 14, Peter was able to walk on water only if he focused, had faith, and kept his eyes on Jesus. But as soon as he focused on the wind and the raging waters he began to sink.

When we fix our eyes on Jesus, prayer, and the word of God we are able to avoid sin, fear, and doubt and receive peace. David says in Psalms "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin again you". Focusing on Jesus and the word of God guides our steps in our pursuit of fulfilling purpose. Psalms 119:105 says that the word of God is a lamp to our feet, a light to our path showing us the way we should go, what we should do, and how to live as a Christian. Jesus needs to be our main focus and the center of it all. When we set our minds and keep focused habitually on the things above (eternal things), we experience God's mercy and love.

You may be feeling fatigued, burnt out, and in pain in your marathon and on the verge of giving up. The weights on your shoulders of depression, anxiety, doubt, and fear makes you want to quit. But just like Derek Redmond’s father came running to him to help him finish the race, so is your father who sits in heaven. There is something awaiting you and there are places God wants to take you. Set your gaze on him, have faith in him for he will surely take you to the finish line.

How are you running your race? Are your eyes set on Jesus?
