DAY 2 OF 7

My Hope is in You

Although David was a man after God’s own heart, he had plenty of shameful moments as well. But he always knew his safest place was in the presence of his Father. He constantly preached truth to himself. He didn’t always wait for the prophet Nathan to bring a word from the Lord to begin turning things around. He knew the truth and he reminded himself of that truth. “Why are you downcast O my soul? ...Hope in God”

In Psalm 62, David cries out, “Yes my soul, find rest in God, my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my Rock and my Salvation. My Fortress. I will not be shaken.” David acknowledges that God is his Foundation, his Rescue, his Safe Place, the Reason he can say with confidence he will not be shaken. David isn’t simply mustering up courage. He’s not just giving himself a halftime pep-talk, “Ain’t nobody gonna shake me!” No. He’s reminding himself of the Rock on which he stands!

Jesus tells a story of two men building houses. One built on sand and the other built on rock. Now, this story is not The Three Little Pigs: the houses in Jesus’ story do not appear to be different from each other. The foundation is the variable! The house whose foundation was not on the solid rock was shaken and fell with a great crash.

When we build our lives on the Truth of Jesus as the Son of God; sovereign over all time, space and circumstance; that He defines Goodness, Patience, Love, Peace and so much more, then there is nothing in this life that can shake us! Not drought. Not storm. Not disease. Not death. Nothing. Why are you downcast o soul? Put your hope in God!
