NONE IN NEED
God's heart always reaches out to the broken, poor and the needy. He is the God of the fatherless and the oppressed. He answered the cry of his people to deliver them from slavery in the land of Egypt. In the midst of severe famine, God sent Elijah to Zarephath to provide for a widow and her dying son. Jesus during his days on earth went about doing good - healing the sick and meeting the needs of people. He was filled with compassion whenever he saw the needy. He didn't just satisfy the spiritual needs of people but also addressed their daily physical needs. He reaches out and touches anyone who has a need or asks for help irrespective of whether they believe in him or not.
With the Holy Spirit poured out and the birth of the early church, all the believers in the body of Christ continued to do what Jesus did and were together in one spirit and had everything in common. They even sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. God desires for none to be in need in his body.
In today's consumeristic and self indulging world that is constantly pushing us to hoard up and store up for ourselves, God's word challenges us to open wide our hands to help those who are needy around us. For it is more blessed to give than to receive. Paul instructs the churches to take care of the needy and especially to honor and care for the widows. Taking care of orphans and widows in their affliction is the religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father. (James 1:27)
When we are generous to the poor and the needy, we are lending to the Lord and he will repay us for our deed. Whatever we do for the hungry, thirsty and the strangers in need, we are doing as unto Jesus. The word of God commands those that are rich to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. May the Lord bless us and flourish us to be a blessing! To not be consumers but generous givers!
The CHALLENGE to Change:
Ask God to sensitize you to the needs of people, especially the poor, the widows and the orphans. Would you be ready to stand by them and help them in their need? For the poor and needy would you be willing to set aside a portion of money/ resources apart from the tithes and offerings? For the widows and orphans would you be willing to stand by them and support them and be gracious to them?

About this Plan
We keep talking about change, how much this world needs it. True change is not brought about by the formation of new laws, rather by the transformation of each one’s life. You will find in this Plan a reminder for each day of an area we need to change in and grow, prompting us into Christ likeness and becoming the change this world needs to see and emulate. So…..Got Change?
