Gathering in the name of Jesus has power, as Matthew 18:19-20 states: “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I among them.”
This scripture teaches us that we do not walk through life alone, as the Holy Spirit is always there with a believer. When we come together with other believers and seek God’s will, amazing things can happen. We can pray for each other and support one another in our walk with Christ.
However, this scripture doesn’t just apply to prayer meetings or church gatherings. It’s a reminder that wherever we go, we carry Jesus with us. We are a light to others so we can bring them closer to Him. He is here in the midst of our discussions, service, support, and fellowship with each other.
Too many times, we believe no one understands what we’re going through or that we paint ourselves into corners and feel there is no one there to help. It’s important to not only seek God’s wisdom through the Holy Spirit but to seek Godly counsel with fellow believers. Just as God told Adam, it wasn’t good for him to be alone. We benefit when we do life together and put God at the center of it all.
So, my challenge for you today is this: think of someone in your life who needs support and encouragement in their faith. Reach out to them and invite them to join you in prayer or attend a church service together. If you are the one who needs encouragement, get plugged into a church and attend in person to make connections. Join a Bible study and reach out to other believers to form relationships. Let’s be intentional about building community and supporting one another in our walk with Christ.
Here are two questions to reflect on as you consider this challenge:
- Who is someone in your life that you can invite to gather in the name of Jesus with you? Or who is that someone who has been inviting you to gather with them in the name of Jesus?
- In what ways have you experienced the power of gathering in Jesus’ name?
