Dear God, When Is It My Turn?

DAY 1 OF 5

Let’s Begin

How to Wait On God When You Feel Like You’ve Waited Long Enough

The next five days are filled with transparent devotions and prayer times written to capture a universal experience shared by all of us. It’s that deep inner longing we experience when the circumstances we’ve been experiencing don’t match up with the life we know we’ve been designed to live. And there it is. That junction between faith and fed up where your prayers teeter between “I trust your timing God,” and “Dear God, When Is It My Turn?”

If you are running low on hope and wondering if the personal messages God shared with you concerning your future will ever come to pass -- then welcome to, Dear God When Is It My Turn?: A 5-Day Bible Reading Plan On How to Wait On God When You Feel Like You’ve Waited Long Enough.

You can plug through this devotional solo or share the experience (my fave) with another friend who needs some revelations of hope, growth, and encouragement that are found in God's word and belong to every Believer who dares to trust that waiting is truly for our good.

Day 1: Making Peace With Hardship

I would like to normalize something for you, “There will be hardship in your life as a believer.” As a Bible-believing Christian myself I have to confess, “I've had a hard week.” I'm talking about the kind of week that was painful, dark, and “Did I already say hard?.” I even found myself in bed, overwhelmed, and heavy asking God, and I'm almost ashamed to say this out loud, “Why is this happening to me?!” Have you ever found yourself feeling so righteously deserving of a pass on hardship or like somehow you've earned the good life?

God led me to Hebrews chapter twelve and it was a complete attitude adjustment and game-changer. I pray that it will realign how you process hardship in your own life. Hebrews chapter twelve in verse eleven says:

“ For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it”

The word discipline is not only referring to the chastisement that a parent may give a child. When you dig deeper and review the text in its original Greek language we find that the expanded meaning of the word discipline includes a kind of education or training that takes place to shape our character. If God permits hardship in your life it is to produce a harvest of righteousness and peace if you allow yourself to be trained by it. No hardship, no harvest.

If you are going through a difficult season of discipline or waiting, I want to encourage you to hold on and to keep persevering. It may seem painful or unpleasant at the moment but know that God is using this time to train and shape you. His discipline is a sign of His love for you and His desire to see you grow and mature in your faith. Trust that He is working all things together for your good and that His plan for your life is good. Keep seeking Him and His will for your life, and have faith that His discipline will yield a peaceful fruit of righteousness in your life. Remember that God is with you every step of the way and that He will never leave you nor forsake you. Hold on to His promise and be encouraged by His faithfulness.

Prayer:

Dear God, strengthen my will so that I can enjoy your hardship as painful as it can be so that I can reap the righteousness and peace I desire to see in my life in Jesus' name amen.

Pro Tip For Seasons of Waiting:

Reset your thought life daily. Your perspective on why you are in God’s waiting room will either make you a whiner or a winner.

Reminder:

Whatever hardship you meet this week please be reminded that if God permits it it is so it can produce a harvest of righteousness and peace in your life if you allow yourself to be trained by it.
