Overwhelmed by My Blessings: Encouragement for Moms (Part 5)نموونە
Did you wake up this morning feeling lonely despite your houseful of people? Are you feeling forgotten and unimportant, unappreciated and incompetent? Like you can’t do this and no one even cares? Welcome to the mom club, the mom life. The Bible tells us children are a reward, and we so want to believe it, but motherhood rarely feels rewarding. Why is this calling one that leaves us feeling less than and unfulfilled?
We are lacking, uninspired and unmotivated. We need courage to face another day.
The Biblical character David was no mom, but he was a man that knew adversity. In 1 Samuel 30, we read that David, a warrior, conquered some strong and mighty adversaries. What a great accomplishment! But, when he and his men came back to their city, they found it destroyed by fire and their families had been taken captive. They were devastated. The men wept til there were no tears left. We’ve all been there. But, then his own men turned on him, and talked of stoning David. After all, he was the leader who made the decisions that led to this outcome. We’ve felt that too. Our daily leadership is often called “mean” or too harsh. Right when we think David could have sunk into despair, and resigned his leadership, the end of verse 6 says “But, David found strength in the Lord his God.”
King James Version says David encouraged himself. David added courage to himself!
Sometimes we may not have anyone around us building us up, adding courage to our days. In fact, on many days we are ready to quit! But like David did, we can encourage ourselves. We can find strength in the Lord our God. He is there for the asking, giving us boldness and courage to face the next five minutes and the entire day.
Try it. Write yourself some notes and post them around the house, reminding you of the strength of your God. Draw strength from those truths today. Add courage to yourself!
Father, I am feeling less than, lonely, and unappreciated. I know my enemy waits right at those places and wants me to be defeated and discouraged. Please give me Your strength today and help me add courage to myself by choosing You and Your ways. Remind me today that You are there, You will never leave me, You are fighting my battles for me, and You love me more than I will ever realize this side of Paradise. May the joy of knowing You be my strength!
