DAY 3 OF 7

Anointed

As a child, I thought the anointing was this special mysterious, mystical power reserved for a small percentage of adults. I would listen to and watch anointed preachers, yearning to be anointed too.

It's taken me decades to learn that I am an anointed one. Not just me, but you too. All of us are anointed by both the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us in 1 John 2:27 that we have the anointing of the Holy Spirit that abides with us forever. God does not anoint based on intelligence, education, experience, or abilities. God anoints us because of our relationship with Jesus. Every believer is a recipient of the anointing of God.

One meaning of the word anointed is to be empowered. The anointing is the power of God activated in us when we believe. The Holy Spirit's presence within us gives us power. This is not a mystical or magical kind of power, though; it is simply the capability to perform the calling of God on our life. With the power of the Holy Spirit at work within us, we can do everything God has called us to do. The anointing supernaturally equips and strengthens us to lead well.

The anointing is in us to teach, lead, and guide us so we can do what God has called us to do. Whether we are leading at home, at work, at school, in the community, or at church, we've been anointed for the place God has called us to. He has anointed us to bring healing, hope, and the love of God into people's lives. Today let us lead in the anointing the Lord gave us.

Affirmation: I am anointed because of my relationship with Jesus.

Reflection: Have you discounted yourself from leadership because you didn't feel anointed? How does your confidence shift knowing you're anointed to lead?
