His Only Sonنموونە
I was blessed to grow up with a Christian mother but didn’t realize until my adult years how her faithfulness to Jesus had influenced me to pursue righteousness.
Abraham’s story is powerful, with so many lessons for us today. We read of his unwavering trust and how God called him to be a great leader. We can visualize him caring for Sarah and Isaac and his household of servants. We can imagine his pain at Sarah’s inability to conceive and his joy when she does. And, we can wish to get glimpses of the Lord as he did – to hear God’s audible voice and specific call.
When God asked him to sacrifice Isaac, the “son of promise,” on an altar at Mt. Moriah, we can wonder how he obeyed so quickly. During that three-day journey, his heart had to feel shattered. Yet, we can be amazed at this glimpse of Isaac's respect for his father.
Thankfully, Abraham passed this test from God, and God used a ram in a thicket to prove His love.
So much of the Bible narrative about Abraham offers us applications for family life, relationship with our heavenly Father, and faith that demands obedience. It also foreshadows the sacrifice God Almighty would require of Jesus, His only son.
Today, let’s give thanks that our Redeemer made a way for us to live fully free and righteous lives. He is worthy of our praise – in every situation and forever.
