Families Chosen for Battleنموونە
You are Chosen
On orders. As a Military family, you’ve been put on orders to fulfill a mission. Our culture values people based on productivity, and the Military slams that concept into overdrive. It is very utilitarian. And sometimes, it can make you feel like a pawn in an uncaring system.
Service members are not always aware of the big picture of assignments. Often, you are not given reasons and explanations. You must trust that your commanders are operating in good conscience and, more importantly, that God is in control.
As you reflect on this in light of your faith, it’s good to remind yourself to look higher. It’s unrealistic to think you’ll ever understand the whole picture of the needs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force, and Coast Guard. You must trust that the Military has a reason for giving you certain assignments.
It is helpful to view our circumstances through the lens of Scripture. While we can’t always trust the Military to consider what’s best for us, we can trust the commander of the heavenly armies—God himself.
Find reassurance today in God’s plans by reading his promises in Isaiah:
From far across the earth I brought you here and said, “You are my chosen servant. I haven’t forgotten you.” Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Don’t tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.”
Isaiah 41:9-10 (CEV)
Following orders is one thing, but trusting God to help us complete our mission and fulfill our God-given purpose is another. But God’s Word assures us that we are chosen for the task at hand, equipped by God and the Military to achieve victory. Rest in God’s promises, and help your children see God’s purpose interwoven in your Military service.
PRAY
Lord God of the Universe, commander of the heavenly armies, I trust you with my family life. Go before me. Teach me to look higher, to look to you. Amen.
TIME TO TALK
Conversation starter for kids: Provides you with questions and prompts to facilitate a time of applicable discussion with children to lead them towards knowing God and His Word more deeply.
Question(s): Is taking orders from a parent or other adult hard for you? What are some orders that you think are unfair or unnecessary?
Apply: Listen to your kids’ answers. Take a moment to share about any difficulties you experience with taking orders. Explain how, as Military families, we follow many necessary orders, even if we don’t always know or understand the whole plan. The same goes for rules and orders within your home, at work, and school. But God crafted a much bigger plan than we can fully understand. Because of his great love for us, we can trust that he knows best and will guide us through it step by step.
