Growing in Righteousness

DAY 5 OF 6

Justice: Enough is enough

Can you see him in front of you? He's sitting somewhere at a little table, he's quoting and another person sitting next to him with paper and ink is writing down his words. We're talking about Paul. He wants to tell his "son in the faith", Timothy, something, and at the end of his first letter to him he writes about godliness - which is a great gain - along with contentment.

Contentment, that's what we're thinking about today. Are you content?

A little later in the letter we read that we may be content with food and clothing. most of us have much more than that. Many of us are so tremendously blessed. And yet there are moments I would like to have more. Always more. And that has everything to do with dissatisfaction, or sometimes even greed. We need to - we must - deal with that.

If you learn to be satisfied with what God gives you and don't constantly try to get as much as possible, your orientation will slowly but surely change. From self-centered to other-centered. Then giving away, sharing, including others in the blessing you have received becomes more and more natural, whether it is your money, your time, your energy or something else. Your motive? God's love, His provision, and His invitation to pass on what you have received from Him.

Let others share in your material blessings.

Let others share in your spiritual blessings.

And enjoy together the good gifts God gives us!

To think about:

  • What material blessings have you received that you may bless others with?
  • What spiritual blessings have you received with which you may serve another?
  • How will you do that?
  • What do you think of what Paul writes to Timothy?
  • Are you a content person?

Prayer:

"Lord Jesus, You gave up everything, to give us everything. You gave up Your heaven to come close to people here on earth. That You were willing to do that for me Lord I find so special. I want to thank You for that from the bottom of my heart. Help me Lord to pass on what You have given to the people around me. Amen."
