Fully Alive - a Life Empowered by the Holy Spiritنموونە
DAY 5 – ARE YOU FULL?
When two people decide to get married, their relationship changes through the commitment they make to each other and the covenant they make before God. There is a new and deeper connection to each other following this significant step. Just like relationships with our spouse, there are significant moments in the Christian life that lead us into a deeper relationship with God.
Salvation and water baptism are some of these moments! Salvation is where we commit our life to Christ and we receive the presence of the Holy Spirit. Through our salvation decision, our relationship with God is restored and we begin to walk life with Him. Water baptism is our public declaration of our salvation decision, the symbolic moment of giving all of ourselves to God.
Baptism in the Holy Spirit is another significant step in our relationship with God. This is the moment where we ask for and receive all of God, including his supernatural power through the Holy Spirit. Often, our baptism in the Holy Spirit gives us a prayer language (speaking in tongues) which enables our spirit to talk directly to God, encouraging and building it up. We also receive gifts of the Spirit and are empowered to walk in these gifts, which he gives differently to each person so that the church might grow together and encourage one another.
Being filled with the Spirit begins at baptism but is also something that is ongoing. In our relationship with the Holy Spirit, we ask him to continually fill us so that we can give out to the community around us. Think of it like a river flowing in and through us. It is a gift and a blessing that we don’t want to miss out on!
Journal:
- Have you been water baptised? If you have, write down what your experience of water baptism was. If you haven’t, write down what you understand water baptism to be and make a time to talk to your pastor, life group leader or mentor about getting baptised.
- Have you been filled with the Holy Spirit? Maybe you need to be re-filled? Talk with your Pastor or trusted friend/mentor about how you can be filled with the Holy Spirit.
