You And Me Forever: Marriage In Light Of Eternityنموونە
"Look Out"
Imagine a marriage that is completely characterized by the humility of Jesus.
In Philippians 2, Paul says that we should humbly look out not only for our own interests, but also for the interests of others. Oddly, Paul’s example of humility is Jesus.
Think about it. This is Jesus. In this very passage, Paul says that Jesus was “in the form of God.” He calls Jesus “equal with God.” No being has ever approached the greatness of Jesus. And for that reason, no being has had less cause for humility than Jesus.
And yet Jesus is Paul’s prime example of humility! The one Being who has no deficiency, no need, no imperfection, and no reason to be ashamed shows us what it means to be humble! Jesus summed up His mission on earth like this: “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).
Think of all the conflict that would vanish from your marriage if you had the humility of Jesus. Imagine how different your marriage would be if you were more concerned about your spouse’s well-being than your own.
Discuss with your spouse: How frequently do you put your spouse’s needs before your own? How can you grow in this?
