Real Hope: The Apostles' Creed

DAY 4 OF 5

Keep Going, Together!

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,

‘After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.’ (Acts 4:31 NIV).

As a child, every Sunday, we would recite the Apostles Creed in the same boring, monotone way. I would always perk up a little at this point because I knew we were approaching the end! The end of reciting the creed is not the end times that the creed refers to. We logically move from Jesus’ time on earth to the third member of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, at Pentecost and now while we wait for Christ’s return.

The Holy Spirit plays a significant role in the holy catholic church, that is, the set apart for God, the whole church, as it says in 1 Corinthians 12:13 ‘For we were all baptized with one Spirit so as to form one body.’ We are all one in Christ, with God’s Spirit dwelling within us.

Within this unity, there is community. Christianity is not a personal private faith. When the Holy Spirit dwells within you, you are part of a very big community of believers – past, present, and future. You are a saint! Saved by the death and resurrection of Christ in our place, set apart as holy, as one of God’s people.

Of course, this short devotion is glossing over much! If you have questions, can I encourage you to do some research?

In these last days, while we wait for Christ to return, let us continue to meet together as part of the community of believers, as the church of Christ, praying in the Spirit and speaking the word of God boldly.

About this Plan

Real Hope: The Apostles' Creed

The Apostles’ Creed is a well-known statement of faith attributed to the earliest missionary followers of Christ and provides a basic outline of what it means to be a Christian. It’s a statement that’s stood the test of time and is still proclaimed in churches around the world today. In this plan, we’ll dive deeper into the Apostles’ Creed and what it means as we proclaim, ‘I believe in God, the Father almighty… ‘
