It’s coming! Someday you’ll reach full maturity in Christ. You’ll arrive, and from that point on you won’t need to grow any more. No more struggles to obey. Just keep on walking close to Jesus. Right? Right─on the day you enter heaven! Meanwhile, perfection is the goal you'll always be approaching but never reaching in this life. But that doesn’t mean you can’t reach a stage called “maturity” while you’re down here. In fact, if you give yourself completely to God, you can get there soon. God wants you there.

You’ll be most fulfilled in life when you get there. Maturity is the presumed condition for Christ’s followers, our natural habitat, the diet on which we thrive. Maturity is supposed to define “normal” for us. You’ll probably discover various plateaus of maturity along your journey, enjoying a season of steady success for Jesus, then discovering another upward growth path. Unfortunately, you may also discover that it’s possible to stumble off the edge and fall a long, long way. Maintaining and enhancing spiritual maturity requires attentiveness and continual dependence on God.

Challenge: Pray through Scripture and ask God to help you be prayerfully attentive to him so that you can grow in maturity today.
