DAY 2 OF 4

This Little Light of Mine

Take a moment
Create a focus
Give yourself grace
Slow your pace

One afternoon, I shared the above poem on a coworker’s car unaware of how it would resonate with her. The next day, as I walking into a meeting, she pulled me aside and excitedly shared how she found a Car Window Poetry poem on her car the day before and held onto it because it was exactly what she needed to read for the season of life she was in.

As I was walking by my coworker in the stairwell a few days later, I saw the poem sitting atop her lunchbox. That’s where she keeps it, so she can read it once every day. When I put that poem on her car, I had no idea it would mean so much to her.

The smallest act of love can make the biggest difference in people’s lives. That’s why, no matter what time of the year it is, the Christmas story is powerful.

In the Christian faith, we believe a small child, Jesus, was born to bring salvation to the earth, to teach each of us a new way to be human. A little light disrupted the darkness and set the whole world aglow, proclaiming, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jesus also lets us know, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Light fosters life. You have light to share, which means you have life to share. Don’t hide it. We all want to make a mark on the world, but oftentimes we talk ourselves out of it because we’re too busy or we assume we’re not talented enough. Hear me today: Your light shines brighter than you think it does.

How will your light go a long way today?

Writing Prompt: What advice do you need to hear? Write four poems sharing that advice with someone else. You never know when those reminders might be the words they need to hear, as well!
