DAY 4 OF 10

The Promise of the Word of God, written by Kellee Teal

The Bible is the word of God. As a kid in Sunday School, I was taught that the Bible was:

B asic

I nstructions

B efore

L eaving

E arth

And it is. The word of God gives us guidelines on why we exist and what our purpose is. In addition to this, it outlines the vast and numerous promises of God. When we know the word of God, we know what He promised for those before us, what he promises for us now and in the future. In fact, there are over 3000 promises of God in the Bible. Knowing the promises of God is so important because it revolutionises our prayer life!

As a parent, there is nothing more powerful than my children reminding me of what I have previously told them I would do. “Mum, you said we could…” is an often-repeated phrase in our house, usually involving some kind of treat I have promised but forgotten!

Our prayer life should be like this! “God your word says that you will…” carries weight and promise. Unlike me as a parent, God is a Father who doesn’t go back on His promises! His words always stand firm. God, Your Word says you when I come to You with my burdens, You will give me rest (Matt 11:28). God, Your Word says You will not fail or abandon us – be close to me today (Josh 1:5). A life of devotion is founded on the promise of God’s Word.

As you read these scriptures today and see the significance of the Word God has left us with, continue to search the Word of God – meditating, memorising, highlighting, and praying into being the many promises that are tucked away for us throughout the Bible. Watch God respond to your faith by fulfilling His promises in your life and live out your days expectant of an answer from Him.

  • What promise has God spoken over me that I am yet to take hold of?
  • How can I seize the power of the word of God in a greater way?
