Worship Without Wallsنموونە
To Bow or Not To Bow, The Daily Practice of Worship
I sat there just staring at my computer clock, wishing and hoping for the time to breeze by. I wanted to start my weekend early, hence my eagerness to see the "time fly by." However, it was not happening. It was just 2:17 pm, more than four hours left till closing at work, and it seemed like an eternity.
As the slow day progressed, I sat there trying to motivate myself and suddenly began to think about the twenty-four elders in heaven. Revelations 4:9-10 says that these elders would fall before the Lord and worship at the living creatures' promptings. It occurred to me that those elders mentioned in the very last book of the Bible are embodiments of consistency;
Day and night, they engage God in true heartfelt worship. I wondered if they ever got tired of the repetition and if they wanted to get an early start on their weekend as well. Of course, we know these are spiritual beings without our limitations as humans who need to take breaks or worship in shifts. However, there is much we can learn about their actions. The book of Revelations describes twenty-four elders' worship as daily and consistent. We can draw strength from this as consistency in our worship produces encouragement for our daily and weekly activities.
Similarly, in Isaiah 66, Prophet Isaiah describes God's judgment and His hope, and in verse 23, there is the notion that a time is coming when worship will occur without the constraints of time or seasons. It will be something we all look forward to doing, not something forced or boring. One that is not motivated or influenced by our time limitations and inconsistency. The lesson here is that if worship continues consistently in heaven, we should adopt the same approach on earth no matter the time or season, even on days every ounce of our bodies is screaming, "SHUT IT DOWN."So how do we begin? We must decide to bow daily and often to Our God. Turning to God in worship as these elders did in the book of revelations is not just a duty but a nonnegotiable activity that produces delight and a sense of trust in God's power.
We can't worship every second, but we can consistently start with 5 minutes daily. So take some time today, take a position of reverence, bow your knees, and acknowledge God as Lord, do this consistently and experience supernatural strength.
