Prophets and the Evangelist
What does the prophet Ezekiel have in common with the modern-day Christian? Both are called by God to be His light in the darkness.
There’s a sobering passage of scripture in Ezekiel 3 that should cause us all great concern. Ezekiel was, of course, an Old Testament prophet living under the law, so there’s not a direct connection to what God told Ezekiel and what God is telling us today . . . and yet there is. God’s nature and concern for the lost never changes.
In Ezekiel’s time, walled cities kept ‘watchmen on their walls’ to warn them of impending danger. God used that fact to make His point to Ezekiel (and perhaps to us) that Ezekiel was a ‘Watchman on the Wall,’ and if he failed to warn the people that the enemy (Satan) was coming, they would die in their sins, but their blood would be on Ezekiel's hands. And God told that to one of His ‘elect’ prophets! What about us? Now’s the time to be thankful that we’re living under the New Covenant, saved by grace and not of works. God warned His faithful servant and prophet that He was holding him accountable for warning those around him that the enemy (Satan) has determined to take them to hell. It’s not a stretch to believe that God’s expectations are the very same for us. There is no greater task set before us.
The question is, do you want to remain half-hearted? Frankly, it’s not a fun place to be. Matthew 6:24 explains it well: “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. James 1:6-8 provides the added dimension that being double-minded removes God’s obligation to answer your prayers: For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
