Theology for Everybody: Romansنموونە
We have now spent one year together in the book of the Bible that is among the most significant books in the history of the world. It’s amazing how Paul began his letter with God and concluded with a doxology.
Are you feeling a bit weak or weary today? Do you have a tough time persevering in this current season? Paul writes, “Now to him who is able to strengthen you” (v. 25). God wants to strengthen you so you can live by His strength. The apostle continues, “According to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ” (v. 25). The gospel means Good News. There is a God who made you. There is a God who knows you. There is a God who loves you. A God took you, even if you were evil or foolish, and He is pulling you up toward wisdom. He is sending the Spirit of wisdom down to you.
Jesus died so you can be forgiven. Jesus has risen so you can live a new life. God is not done with you. God has not abandoned you. God is not overwhelmed by you. God is not overcome by you. God is there for you. God is there to help you. God is there to forgive you. God is there to befriend you and change you.
“According to the revelation of the mystery that was kept for long ages, but has now been disclosed through the prophetic writings in vain, known to all nations” (v. 26). We now have the Word of God. In a world filled with foolishness, we go to the Word to find wisdom. In a world corrupted by evil, we go to the Word to be transformed by renewing our minds. If you want to get a word from God, I have good news for you: all you need to do is open the Word of God. It is the only perfect thing on planet Earth. It is the source of all truth. It is revelation from God, and it is transformation for your soul.
Paul says, “According to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—to the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen” (vv. 26–27). Amen means truth. Jesus is Lord. Sin is forgiven. Death is conquered. The Spirit of God is poured out. The Church of Jesus Christ is marching forward. My worst days are behind me. My best days are before me. God knows and rules all, and He loves me, adopts me, saves me, changes me, and blesses me. He gives me the same power that Jesus lived by—the power of the Holy Spirit.
God has an eternity set, prepared, and planned for you. He’ll never leave you. He’ll never forsake you. He’ll never abandon you. He’ll never betray you. God is never evil. God is never foolish. God is always wise. God is always faithful.
