Finding the Light in Fearنموونە
DAY 5
SURROUNDINGS
Welcome back! We have been studying the topic of fear this week alongside Scripture with the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. At this point in the story, we know the men were officials of King Nebuchadnezzar, and when they refused to worship as the king requested, he ordered them to be bound by the strongest soldiers and thrown into a fire seven times hotter.
Fear could have overtaken Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego’s emotions. However, they held the assurance that God was ABLE. This enabled them to confront being tossed into the fire with peace.
Today, we will continue reading Daniel 3:21-23:
21 So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans, and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace. 22 The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, 23 and these three men, firmly tied, fell into the blazing furnace.
Can you imagine what this must have been like for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego? They were bound by the strongest soldiers and thrown into a fire that was seven times hotter than usual. As this event occurred, the strongest soldiers who threw the three men into the fire died because the furnace was so hot that the flames killed them instantly.
Yet, there is still an absence in Scripture about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego attempting to run away or resist being thrown into the fire.
The condition that surrounds fear is chaos. In the world, everything seems to crumble when a threat becomes a reality, and we fear the danger that follows.
In this part of our story today, we still see peace in Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego as the world crumbles around them. The soldiers throwing them into the fire die themselves, yet Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are still at peace. Their assurance that God is ABLE to FREE them has given them peace as the conditions surrounding Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are more dangerous than ever.
I leave you with this today: God has proven Himself to be our great protector, but have you found a faith that is the unseen and unknown kind? You may not be able to understand how God will protect you, but having the assurance that He will is this unseen and unknown faith that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego displayed.
Perhaps the world around you is crumbling today. Keep your faith, dear child of God. KEEP YOUR FAITH!
I’ll see you here tomorrow as we study God’s protection during the danger.
