"Sex"
We’ve been told we’re all talking about it, we’re all thinking about it, and that Christians don’t like it! I don’t know about you, but I think we as Christians need to get better at talking about what the Bible says about sex, because it’s got a lot to say, and it’s all pretty awesome! There are so many myths about what Christians believe about sex, so today we’re going to look at what the Bible says about sex, and how God designed it!
The Bible says that sex was created by God, and we know that everything God creates is good! But if sex is so good, why has God told us that sex is designed only for marriage? We can easily think that this is bad news, because the world has told us that freedom comes when there are no rules or restrictions. But actually, nothing could be further from the truth.
If I went to watch a football match and found out that there was no referee, goalposts, or lines on the pitch, and that the teams could have as many players as they wanted, I would want my money back! Football is only football when the laws of the game are followed; the players are only free to play football when they have all the rules and frameworks in place. If that isn’t the case, it just ends up ruining the game for everyone.
It’s exactly the same with sex; God’s great plan is that sex is to take place within the context of marriage. It’s important that we understand that this isn’t God wanting to ruin our fun, telling us not to enjoy ourselves. Rather, God knows that we will be most fulfilled and will thrive the most when we use the Biblical framework for sex.
The important thing for each of us is not to ask the question, ‘how far can I go?' When you are waiting for a train, you don’t go and stand as close as you can to the edge of the platform, because you know it’s dangerous and the closer you get, the greater the chance of falling into danger! In fact, you stand far back! It’s the same with the Bible, the line shows us not what to get close to but what to stay away from.
