Resurrender

DAY 2 OF 7

THE POSTURE OF RESURRENDER: WORSHIP

In Mark chapter 5, we are introduced to three different characters in the bible who each have an extraordinary encounter with Jesus. These characters represent three different situations, three different backgrounds, and three different needs. However, one thing that ties all three stories together was not just Jesus, but the way in which they respond to Him.

The first story is about a man who is demon-possessed and needs freedom in his life. When he sees that Jesus is coming his way, the man runs to Jesus and falls at His feet. The second story is about a religious leader named Jairus whose daughter is dying, and he desperately needs a miracle for his child. When Jairus sees Jesus, he too runs over to Him and falls at His feet. The final story is about a woman who had a health issue of bleeding and needed healing in her body. After desperately pushing her way toward Jesus, she finally reaches Him and falls at His feet. Three different people with the exact same response. Three different issues yet the exact same response. They all FALL AT THE FEET OF JESUS.

These stories are reminders that whatever we are going through, the only response required is WORSHIP.

The idea of falling at someone’s feet and bowing down to them is the ultimate act of worship. It is a picture of humility and absolute surrender. It is a picture of someone who has come to the end of themselves. But coming to the end of ourselves is a beautiful place to be. Because the end of us, means the beginning of Him. It is when we are done, when we are finished, when we have nothing left, that is when God steps in. Because it is in that moment that God gets the glory. When we do things in our own effort and own strength, we can fall into the trap of praising ourselves, but the truth is we don’t deserve any of the glory or any of the praise. It ALL belongs to Jesus.

This is what worship truly is. It is recognizing that we don’t have the answers, and we don’t know it all, so we bow down and surrender to the one who does. When we yield our lives, and submit ourselves to God, this is the act of worship that God is looking for. Romans 12 reminds us that God doesn’t just want a part of your life, a part of what you have, or even a part of your day; God wants ALL of you. We truly worship God when we offer our WHOLE lives as living sacrifices to Him.

Every time we worship God, we RESURRENDER ourselves to him again. We fall at His feet, and we recognize that He is God. Our worship positions us in a place of humility to allow God to really be God in our lives. So the next time you are at church with a room full of worshippers, or the next time you’re at home, worshipping all alone, just remember that we aren’t just singing songs like its Christian karaoke or jumping around like we are at a concert. The reason WHY we worship is to re-focus our attention, re-place our trust and RE-SURRENDER our lives to God.

QUESTIONS:

About this Plan

Resurrender

In a world that is self-focused, self-centred, and selfish, God calls us to live a life that is selfless. Real discipleship is all about denying yourself, taking up your cross, and following Him. Although the cost of salvation is nothing, the cost of discipleship is everything. Join us for a 7-day devotional as we learn the art of RESURRENDER.
