Pause

DAY 13 OF 15

What struggles are you facing in life right now? A difficult divorce or devastating breakup? A job loss or change? A major move or stressful season in your family? A new diagnosis or chronic illness? No matter what it is, the things we’re walking through can feel a lot like what this psalmist described: the darkest valley. We can’t see a way out, and we aren’t sure how long we’ll be stuck there. In the valley, there’s so much to be afraid of or worry about. The thought of having to walk through it even for a moment can feel overwhelming.

Thankfully for us, the verse doesn’t end in the valley. Because yes, while we have to walk through dark valleys in life, we don’t have to do it alone. God promises to be with us. He promises to bring comfort while we’re in it. He promises to walk us through it, step by step. So, while we may want a quick fix or an easy escape, what God offers us in the valley is so much more valuable. His presence and His comfort can change everything for us—not just in the valley but well beyond. Try to commit this familiar verse to memory today, letting it remind you that God is with you in whatever valley you may find yourself in this season.

About this Plan

Pause

Being busy has become the norm—a way of doing things in a culture that celebrates and even encourages living life well beyond our mental, emotional, and physical capacity. The result? A hurried life. So what do we do? During this devotional, we’ll look at the value of slowing down, taking a break, and pushing pause when we need it the most to help us be present, connect with God, and see God’s presence in our lives.
