Valuing The Least

DAY 7 OF 7

How Are You Serving Those Living Under the Poverty Line?

There are 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty. What that really means is that they have the same purchasing power as someone in the US would have had on $1.25 per day in 2005. That’s not much!

Sometimes, it’s easy to glance over statistics and not think about their real meanings and implications. There are real people suffering today! Extreme poverty is a more dire issue than many of us would like to believe, but there are many ways you can be part of the solution. Take a moment to understand extreme poverty a bit more clearly and get a sense for where it is impacting the most people. Then decide what you are going to do about it!

As we reach out with God’s Word, we all seek to be understood. But are we making assumptions about how people engage with and process information? If you are reading this copy, what are your assumptions about the literacy of those you are trying to reach globally?

Personal Reflection: Today’s Missiographic lists a variety of ways to help those in poverty. Are you responding to this great need in any of these ways? What’s a first or next step you can take today? Remember that even a small step has a significant impact on those in extreme poverty. One simple step would be to share this information with your friends and family as a way to raise awareness!

Prayer: Dear God, please give me a heart for those living under the poverty line—in my neighborhood and around the world. Show me what I can do to help and how I can motivate others to help, as well. Most of all, may those in need spiritually come to know You as the source to meet their eternal needs. Amen

About this Plan

Valuing The Least

Jesus made it clear in Matthew 25 that He wants us to value the least among us. Those who follow Jesus will be doing this throughout their lives. Are you? This 7-day reading plan gives us lots to think about—based in facts and research—concerning the needs of indigenous peoples, the impoverished, those being persecuted, those in need of clean water, and more. Dive into a thought-provoking week of considering how you can better value the least among us!
