BOAST IN WEAKNESS
Love . . . does not boast, it is not proud. I CORINTHIANS 13:4
One of the strongest temptations everyone faces is to say the words “I told you so.” Even thinking them can get us into trouble. That’s because, for someone who was just proved wrong, those words pour salt on an open wound. When we’re proven right at the end of a disagreement, it can feel like we’ve chalked up yet another conquest of ego‑building accomplishments that rings the bell on our pride‑o‑meter. It makes us feel good, yet at the expense of someone else’s pain and humility. And God clearly says that love is not proud—of anything. If we are to boast about anything, it is our weaknesses (see II Corinthians 11:30). They are gifts from God to keep us humble and our hearts soft toward one another, which is in line with the character of Christ.
Lord, give me a heart that embraces the reality that I am nothing without You. Who am I that You have even brought me this far (see II Samuel 7:18)? As I boast in my weakness, help me to elevate my husband when I’m with him so he will know without a doubt how proud I am of him. Help me to be quick to highlight his positive and lovely traits above anything I have done. Let him know that he is part of God’s plan for my life. Help me to resist any temptation to say or do anything that would cause him anguish or hurt because my pride got in the way. I want him to flourish in all the ways You created him to be. I LOVE YOU, LORD. AMEN.
About this Plan
Whether you’ve been married for five minutes or fifty years, one of the most loving things you can do to strengthen and protect your marriage is to pray. Your husband needs your prayer support to encourage and empower him to be the man God created him to be and equip him to take on life's daily challenges. As you pray, you'll be inspired to express your love and care for him in new and meaningful ways.
