Moving Toward a Quiet Trust
Teach me, and I will be quiet; show me where I have been wrong.
JOB 6:24 NIV
It’s hard to learn anything if we go through our days at a breakneck pace. Yet God created us to learn—how to love better, how to trust more, how to know our value, how to let go of the controls and hold on to Him. We’re here to realize how miraculously we’re made and to discover that a simple life is anchored in a simple truth. God loves us too much to let us go. Ever. It doesn’t matter if we get it all wrong some days. When we rush past opportunities to listen, to rest, to pray, to stop and get directions, there’s a good chance we’ll get a whole bunch of things wrong. But grace is patient, certain, and steadying.
Every day is another chance to move toward a simple life while pushing away from the chaos. When we get entangled in the idea that we have to accomplish a set number of tasks or prove our worth by the world’s measure of success, we risk never being able to slow down and learn how to simply be quiet. It’s a discipline we’ll master only by asking for God’s help. He sees the things we can’t see. He’s written our days. He wants us to remember how sufficient He is and how infinitely He cares. It’s up to us to quiet the noisy demands in our heads, the loud expectations we’ve put on ourselves, and the nagging impossibility of perfection—in our homes, our jobs, our families, and our social media posts.
Maybe we can start our days in a different way. Our eyes open with a quiet thank-you. Our first deep breath brings a quiet smile. A healthy stretch from head to toe releases our hours into God’s hands. There is nothing more comforting or faithful than His care. It’s as relentless as our list of things to do, but He can be trusted with what gets done—and what doesn’t. Remember the moments that make up the minutes belong to the One who’s teaching us to simply trust.
Dear God, quiet my heart to hear Your voice, learn to trust, and let go of the pressures controlling my day. I give it all to You and the peace of Your care.
