Anchorage: The Storm of Sickness | Part 6 of 8

DAY 2 OF 7

Test of Obedience

Often our sickness is nothing but a test of obedience. If God has allowed it in our life then there must be something that He is surely pointing towards, something that we need to learn or unlearn, or maybe He's trying to break our pride. To receive healing, perhaps all we have to do is to obey, but obedience is hard. We read in 2 Kings chapter 5 the story of Naaman, a commander in the Syrian army who was suffering from leprosy. His healing process involved two instances of humbling. One was to listen to a servant girl and consult with the prophet Elisha and the second was to obey Elisha and dip himself in the Jordan River seven times. While he immediately accepted the first, he was quite hesitant to do the second. Primarily because the second act was one where he would have had to humble himself in public and go down to the Jordan River and obey a prophet from a foreign land and of a foreign God. However, this act of humility and obedience is what ultimately led to his healing.

There are times in our life where pride is what keeps us from our healing. Perhaps we might have chosen not to obey God because what He asked us to do sounded impractical. But all we are called to do is trust and obey.

Trust and obey, for there's no other way

To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Reflect

Ask God to help you trust Him and be able to take that step of faith you need to receive your healing.
