I Can Do All Things “In You”: A 5-Day Devotional with Iveth Lunaنموونە
“I don’t wanna live that way, I gotta have a bit more faith”
A few years ago, I was leading worship at my home church every Sunday. I’m very passionate about worship, but there came a time when God asked me to take a step back, rest, and simply go to church. During this season (which was several months) I didn’t feel like myself. I had put my identity into being a worship leader for so long, I had forgotten what it was like to simply rest and receive on Sundays. This was definitely a sign I needed to take a break.
How many times do we put our identity in good things, but the wrong thing? You may find yourself putting your identity into being an athlete, a parent, or your job. Sometimes it can be your talents, your mistakes, your season, or your friends. Whatever it may be, if our identity is not found in Jesus, we have missed the mark.
It may seem like a small thing, but the reality is our identity can either hold us back or push us toward where we are called to be, which I believe is greatness. 1 John 4:4 says “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world”.
Taking a step back from being on stage allowed me to see that I was more than the season I was in. I was reminded of my true identity: child of the Highest King who carries the victorious Spirit of her Father. Because of this truth, my faith was reignited and I felt empowered by the Spirit in a fresh way. I was no longer limited to leading worship but transcended into my everyday life.
I pray that as we take on the day, we are reminded of our true identity as Children of the Highest King. Because our faith is in Jesus, we know we have His Spirit in us who is so much greater!
Application:
Write down this verse somewhere you can see it, in your journal, your bathroom mirror, anywhere it will remind you of your true identity!
He who is in you is greater
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
Prayer:
Dear God, I thank you for your faithfulness to draw me close to you. I thank you because you have empowered me through Your Holy Spirit to walk in my true identity. Remind me that wherever I am placed, whatever season comes my way, I am a child of God first. Remind me that you have given me a spirit that is greater than the spirit of the world and because of that, I can be the light you have called me to be. Reveal to me how I can live for you today and be a light in the world. Thank you! In Jesus' name, Amen.
