Year of the Bible: Part Nine of Twelveنموونە
Jesus is the Son of “_________”
Jesus' lineage is proof that He fulfilled the promise of the Messiah: Jesus was "the son (as was supposed) of Joseph," but we read earlier in Luke that Jesus is actually the Son of God. Jesus is also "the son of Heli, the son of Matthew...the son of David, the son of Jesse...the son of Perez, the son of Judah...the son of Abraham...the son of Noah...the son of Adam...the son of God."
Jesus' lineage went all the way back to the beginning and was under constant attack from the enemy of God. Yet, through infertility, slavery, oppression, judgment, loss, and conspiracy to eliminate, the line of the promise of Jesus survived. How wonderful—how marvelous!—is our God, the God of the promise.
As you read on in Luke and the other Gospels, revel in the promise fulfilled. Be encouraged by this assurance: "But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).
Charge: Your name can be added to the genealogy of the family of God. Your name can be written into the Lamb's Book of Life. How? Repent and believe the Gospel and the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.
Question: God has shown Himself faithful in the promise of a Messiah—how confident are you in His faithfulness to you? Do a quick internet search for "the promises of God," and ask yourself whether you believe God when He promises something.
Prayer: Father, I repent of my opinion of how You should accomplish Your plan of salvation for me and the world. I believe the good news Jesus taught and modeled. Thank you for sending Jesus to do for me what I could not do for myself.
