We Can Praise God in the Dark
It is hard for us to comprehend the magnitude of all God’s attributes. In many respects, He is quite the opposite of us. What a comforting thought! God is in control of His Creation, and the things that concern us are no match for His wisdom and power. He sympathizes with our weaknesses because He became human in the person of Jesus and was tempted in every way, yet was without sin (Hebrews 4:15).
Impress your child that God is worthy of praise for who He is. He is bigger, better, smarter, stronger, and more loving than we imagine! But He knows us so intimately that He has counted the number of hairs on our heads (Matthew 10:30).
Say:
There is no darkness for God. He is so beautiful and holy that He is light all the time. So anything that may come with the darkness for you—shadows, fears, cold, lack of sight—does not apply to God. You can be sure that God keeps you safe and sound, even when it is dark.
Ask:
- What do you like least about the dark?
- How will you praise God that darkness is not darkness for Him?
Close with a prayer of praise based on your child’s responses.
