Year of the Bible: Part Seven of Twelve

DAY 9 OF 30

No Fret Zone

Wow, does Psalm 2 describe the attitude of many in our culture or what? It seems that so many in the media, the entertainment arts, and other sectors carry the attitude of Ps 2:3: "Let's break off the chains of religion's moral limitations and free ourselves to do our own thing. Who needs Christianity and some imaginary God to take away all of our fun?" Some will actively plot to bring down Christian institutions and people, mocking and boasting that they don't need any "so-called God" and that, even if a God existed, no God could bring any punishment upon them.

It seems that everywhere we look, world leaders who are hungry for power, politicians that feed their own agendas, and people all around us are living like there is no God, no accountability, and no eternity. Broken people everywhere are suffering under the pain, guilt, and emptiness of a godless life. Yet, God is patiently calling humanity back to a fulfilling relationship with Him and His purpose for us.

God's laughter at the thought that His mere created ones could successfully overthrow Him—the Creator—is combined with pleas, warnings, and a promise that His Son—the Anointed One—will receive the nations as His inheritance, one way or another.

While the arrogant boast against God, they also live with anxiety, insecurity, fear, shame, bitterness, and guilt. God would love to lift all of these burdens from them if they would only humble themselves.

Questions: Are you a living witness of a good, loving, and holy God who enjoys the spiritual freedom found within His boundaries, carrying the witness of peace and joy to a world that desperately needs it? Do you experience God's confidence, hope, and laughter when others are getting anxious over world events and godless threats?

Prayer: Spend a few moments meditating on the God of peace who bears no fear of godless threats or boasts. Ask the Lord to forgive you for getting "all worked up" by global events; ask Him to instead fill you with the peace that surpasses anything the world can give. You can walk in His joy today because Your Savior has come, He will be victorious, and you will participate in His inheritance of the nations.
