Daily Bible Reading – September 2022: "God’s Renewing Word of Wisdom"

DAY 16 OF 30

September 16

Introduction

King Josiah, a descendant of David, became king at an early age. Despite his tender years, he knew that God was the only true god. In obedience to God’s laws, Josiah bans the worship of foreign gods and smashes the pagan idols in Judah, Jerusalem, and all the territories he rules. He decides to repair the Temple at Jerusalem. During this undertaking, the Book of the Law is found. When Josiah hears its message, he becomes sorrowful because he realizes that his people and their ancestors did not follow God’s laws. The high priest, Hilkiah, along with other men, journey to the house of Huldah, the prophetess, to find out what God requires of the people.

Scripture Reading

2 Chronicles 34:1-28

Today’s Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 34:2

[Josiah] did what was pleasing to the LORD; he followed the example of his ancestor King David, strictly obeying all the laws of God.

Reflect

Reread verses 23-28. What message from the LORD did Huldah reveal? Why is it significant that Josiah says, “Go and consult the LORD” (verse 21a)? How do you discern what God wants you to do?

Pray

Lord God, I come before you with a repentant heart. Help me to stand firm in my promise to serve only you. Heal those areas of my life that have fallen into disrepair. Loving God, I look to you for guidance. Order my steps this day. Amen.

Tomorrow’s Reading

2 Chronicles 34:29-33: Josiah makes a covenant to obey the LORD.
