Righteousness and Justice - Proverbs 31
One powerful theme in the book of Proverbs is helping the poor – stepping up and speaking up for those who don’t have a voice or whose voice is barely audible in this noisy world. The Bible teaches righteousness and justice are the foundation of God’s throne (Psalm 89:14). If we’re not careful, we can become so focused on being right with God that we never acknowledge justice is also foundational to our faith. Social justice has become a great theme of this generation and is so important. Our faith needs to be practical – serving, speaking up, and meeting practical needs in people’s lives.
Over and over again, the book of Proverbs encourages us to help the poor. It says as we do, there is a blessing from God that will come back to us. Too many people have an attitude of judgment toward those who are less fortunate. It’s so much better to extend mercy and help other people than to have an attitude of superiority. Proverbs 19:17 tells us, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.”
“Father, thank you for giving me the means to help those around me. Help me have a merciful and kind spirit and serve those less fortunate than me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
