Warning Signs
If you’re heading in a direction that is just 1 degree off your intended destination, the further you go, the error starts small but it grows and grows the further you go.
Solomon started out so well, following in David’s footsteps as a man after God’s own heart. He faithfully built the temple to all the specific instructions—the ideal temple, where Heaven and earth meet, filled with God’s presence where God would dwell among His people. Solomon was certainly heading in the right direction.
However, Solomon immediately moved onto building his own palace. When you look at the details, some of his priorities start to become evident. His own house was much larger and took much longer to complete than the house he built for God! It’s a subtle error that might go unnoticed, but it’s the warning about where Solomon might be headed.
How often do we sabotage the good plans God has for our life by altering our direction by just 1 degree, making sure we fulfil our obvious responsibilities but are still really motivated by selfish intent. Is the house we are building for ourselves bigger and grander than the house we are building for God?
Thought Point
Do you separate your life into “God time” and “Me time”? What does it look like to give it all for God?
Prayer Point
As you spend time with God, ask Him to make you aware of any warning signs in your life that might be altering your direction to where He’s guiding you.
