Year of the Bible: Part Six of Twelve

DAY 30 OF 30

Purim

Wrapping up the book of the Bible that never mentions God leads us to some historical trivia and then points to God! After all the drama of Haman's plot and Esther's courage to approach the King, there's a moment when we catch our breath because the decree to destroy the Jews could not be reversed. Instead, a new one was issued that permitted the Jewish people to defend themselves. The date for the decree came, and for two days, the Jews destroyed their enemies: first the house of Haman and then anyone who had aligned themselves with Haman's plot.

Now, the interesting bits of trivia! The die used by Haman to determine the initial date for destroying the Jews was called "Pur" in Hebrew. Consequently, the feast that came after the annihilation of the Jew's enemies is called "Purim." This festival is still celebrated to commemorate the faithfulness of God. He is our protector. When enemies seem to be winning, we can count on God to pull through for us.

So, where do we see God in this story? He is always making ways to preserve and protect the ones He calls His own. The officials of the Kingdom aided the Jews in defending themselves and destroying their enemies. God provided supernatural deliverance. He will always be faithful to the ones He loves.

Question: What enemies are you facing today? Who can you recruit to fight with you in prayer?

Prayer: Ask God to show you how He wants to bring deliverance in your circumstances. Lean into Him even when things look bleak! He wants you to see Him, even in trials.

See You Next Month: Part seven of twelve starts on the 1st. We hope to see you there, don't forget to start the plan and create your daily reminder.
