God and Dating: Thoughts on Relationships. نموونە
What God Thinks About Who You Date
God takes the marriage covenant very seriously. So seriously that, in the Bible, a husband and wife relationship is compared to Christ’s relationship with His church. So, while God might not care where you find someone to date, He most definitely cares about who you date.
The Bible tells Christians not to be unequally yoked. This verse is often interpreted to mean Christians shouldn’t be in dating relationships or marriages with non-believers. And it makes sense.
- Husbands are to love their wives like Christ loves the church…
- Wives are to serve their husbands like they do the Lord…
- Husbands and wives are to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ…
If you marry a man who doesn’t know how Christ loves the church, how is he to love you in that way? If you marry a woman who doesn’t serve the Lord, how is she to respect and serve you in that way? If you date and marry someone who doesn’t believe in the Lord like you, then you won’t be able to have a Christ-centered relationship.
It’s important to be with someone who knows, loves, and follows the Lord. It’s also natural to want to date someone you’re attracted to and with whom you have a lot in common. But those aren’t the only qualities you should keep an eye out for. The truth is, just because someone considers themselves a Christian doesn’t mean they know how to date well and show you the respect, kindness, and loyalty you deserve. So, while dating someone with the same beliefs as you is a great start, it’s not the end-all-be-all.
If you're wondering what God thinks about your dating life, remember that He wants what's best for you. And that’s most likely going to be someone who shares your faith or is open to learning more about Jesus. It also is likely to be someone who embodies other Christ-like characteristics and is kind, loving, patient, forgiving, loyal, and generous. Ultimately, if you ask God for guidance when it comes to who you date, He will certainly lead you in the right direction.
