Pray to Honor God and Our Leaders
Read Hebrews 13:7-8
Remember those who led you, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Read Hebrews 13:17
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.
Meditate On It
1. What does the author instruct the readers to do?
2. List down the roles of these leaders and how they are to conduct themselves
3. Who is ultimately the Authority to whom these leaders and church members are accountable?
4. What is God’s design for His people in honoring authorities (in government, family, and personal life)? Why is it so important?
- Read Romans 13:1: Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.
- Read Ephesians 5:21: and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
Apply It
God has designed His people to submit to His Word, appointed authorities, and servant-leaders. How we honor these appointed authorities is ultimately honoring God above all. When we follow God’s authority, we align ourselves to His rule and Kingdom, bringing about joy, peace, and blessing.
- How is my submission to the word of God, the Bible? How can I grow in obedience to God in every area of life? (Take the time to confess any aspect of your life that you have not been obedient, submissive, or honoring God’s words. Ask and pray for a heart of surrender to trust in God and His authority).
2. In what ways can I honor, remember, consider, and imitate the example of the servant-leaders in our church? How can I pray for them and support their God-given roles?
3. By faith, I will honor God’s servants through…
- Set Simple, Measurable, Appropriate, Realistic, Time-bound (SMART) commitments
- Example: “I will ask my church authorities or Pastor how I can pray for them and look for ways to encourage them the next time we meet.”
Pray It
- Let us lift our church to continue magnifying the Lord by making disciples who will make disciples of all nations.
- Pray for a culture of honoring God’s word and authorities in the Church—to submit to God above all and abide by the wisdom of our elders, pastors, and servant-leaders.
- Intercede for our leaders that the Lord may indeed sustain His servants and grant them wisdom on how to navigate through the rest of the year such that God is glorified in their lives and our church
- Intercede for the various churches and ministries all over the country and the world to continue serving the Lord in steadfastness and faithfulness.
About this Plan
Where are your values taking you, or better yet, what are your values? We cannot form our Biblical values through our strength only through God's. Recalibrate your values as you fast, pray, and l.o.v.e.
