Daily Bible Reading, July 2022: God’s Renewing Word of Faithنموونە
July 17
Introduction
The Israelites are tested and continue to sin against the LORD. Whenever the Israelites are oppressed, they cry out to the LORD. Today’s reading lifts up two leaders sent by the LORD — Othniel and Ehud — to rescue them from their enemies. The reading concludes with a brief mention of Israel’s next leader, Shamgar.
Scripture Reading
Judges 3:1-31
Today’s Key Verse: Judges 3:9a
The Israelites cried out to the LORD, and he sent someone to free them.
Reflect
According to yesterday’s reading, the LORD allowed various nations to remain in the land because of Israel’s disobedience (see Judges 2:20-23). In today’s reading, what reason is given for the nations remaining in the land (verses 1-5)? According to verse 6, what did the people do? What occurred because of God’s anger (verses 7-8)? How did the people fare under the leadership of Othniel (verses 9-11) and Ehud (verses 27-30)? What did today’s reading teach you about God?
Pray
God of deliverance, your mercies are new every morning, and you hear me when I call out to you. Your steadfast love and care surround me daily. Teach me to heed and obey your voice and grow in knowledge of you. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
Judges 4:1-24: Deborah and Barak battle a Canaanite army.
