How to Survive the Storms of Lifeنموونە
Fear of God Dispels Anxiety
They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!" (Mark 4:41)
The disciples were terrified in the storm. But, also after Jesus had stilled the storm, they “were filled with great fear”. They were shocked by what they had seen. They were filled with awe and reverence for the Man who could silence wind and sea. They realized that He was no ordinary man, but possessed divine power. And this discovery overwhelmed them. We see a similar reaction in Luke 5, when Jesus demonstrates His power through a miraculous catch of fish and through the healing of a paralyzed man. Once people realize that something superhuman is happening, they are “filled with awe”.
As we come to know Jesus, “fear” is an appropriate response. Holy awe and reverence are suitable when we experience something of the Almighty. In such a moment, there is no place in our hearts for fear — fear of the storm, fear of the future, fear of anyone. Then we fall down in worship before Him.
Do you experience this deep awe of Jesus in your heart as well?
