I Want to Grow

DAY 3 OF 4

I want to be more confident, less worried.

Anxiety is like a contagious disease. It’s everywhere. Just look at how many people in our country regularly use antidepressant medication to get through their days. Think of how many others self-medicate with alcohol or “recreational” drugs.

People’s lives are full of stress, fear, anxiety, and worry. There is violent unrest all over the world. Even economic geniuses can’t figure out what’s going on with our national economy, and where does that leave the little guy? People are worried about their health and their retirement savings, and they’re even more fearful about their children.

Imagine if it could be possible that you were plucked up off your couch and temporarily set into the living room of a family 150 years ago. Would you be surprised to hear those family members fretting over the country’s economic and military situation? Think of how reassuring you could be that everything was going to work out all right.

Jesus has the advantage of having seen all the world’s history. When you are connected by faith into the family of the triune God, you have the protection and resources of the almighty God behind you.

Jesus once counseled his stressed disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life... Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” (Matthew 6:25,26) This is how valuable you are to your Father: he sent his divine Son to die for you.

Breathe.
