God’s Heart For The Poorنموونە
Openhanded Generosity
What practical advice is contained in these verses! Give generously and do so without a grudging heart.
God is clear that we are not to pass moral judgment on those who are poor. We are not to harshly judge the cause of their poverty. Instead, we are called to open our hearts and our wallet to help them with whatever they need according to our ability.
Are you openhanded to the poor, available to help when you are called upon? Is your hand tight to the needs of others or are you known for your generosity?
We also see that our attitude is important. We are to lend cheerfully, not out of obligation or ill will. We know that the Lord will bless us in our work. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
What a great reminder to give cheerfully and liberally, with an open hand, being glad that we have the opportunity to bless someone who needs it most.
About this Plan
The Bible tells us that God “takes up the case” of those who have been crushed. When we follow His lead, we become an advocate for the poor—doing whatever we can to fight for justice. Over the next 30 days, we’ll take a compelling look into poverty and how God has entrusted us to respond.
