DAY 20 OF 28

Messy Relationships

I think we can all agree that relationships are messy. They’re messy because people are complex and carry lots of baggage, from both good and bad experiences, into every interaction. You and I are no different. We have trust issues because of someone’s deception or we might become judgmental because a person reminds us of someone we dislike. These issues are brought into all of our relationships.

Why is this important? Because many times the way we treat friends and family is based on our perception of them. If we perceive them as intentionally ruining our day, we show very little grace. But if we remember that everyone, including us, is dealing with life and all of its problems, we can extend more grace to the difficult people in our lives.

In other words, we have all fallen short of the glory of God. And it is easier to trudge through messy relationships when we believe that. Who do you need to show grace toward this week? How can you remind yourself, when you’re sitting around the dinner table with your family, that everyone is in the same boat?

About this Plan

Really?!?

If we’re honest, some things we read in the Bible leave us shaking our heads. Is it really even possible to sincerely love people who are different from us? Can we really be content with what we have? How about prayer? Does God really hear us? During this study, we’re going to talk about how things that can seem so impossible to us are completely possible with God. Really!
